"Although the words you're trying to convey are lost, I feel like I can understand you. ...you're one of a kind, Squeak."  — "Chronicles of Eden: Volume II", Chapter 12, Loc 5473

Among many of the girls to join Daniel's group, Squeak the ant girl stood out since the moment she entered the picture in Volume I.  With the figure of a model, the strength of a ogre, and a kind, nurturing spirit, she soon became a fine addition to Daniel's proof for coexistence between humans and monsters.

I loved reading Triska's and Squeak's interactions down in the ant girl nest.  Not only did Triska's dedication towards Daniel's mission truly emerge in meeting Squeak, but Squeak found her own courage and fighting spirit in Triska's example.  In learning to be brave and to fight back, Squeak earned herself a role in something much bigger than being a simple worker in the ant girl nest.

Like Daniel and Triska stepping outside the boundaries of Edgewood, Squeak steps out of her comfort zone to face the big world that's been hovering over her head this whole time.  It's a new start for her, a new chance, a new life.

As I've said before when I reviewed Triska, the friendship she made with Squeak was inspiring.  Right from the off, she and Squeak had a close connection, especially in how Triska defended Squeak in Ashwood.

Squeak's personality is quite likable yet simple.  Strong but curious, she's like a kid learning there's more to life than just working in her nest.  She's mostly straightforward in attitude, but does have some funny moments too, like when she and Specca went shopping for supplies in Flairwood.  I chuckle every time I imagine that deadpanned look of hers.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Squeak, however, is that, of all the characters, she represents the importance of action over words.

When forming alliances and friendships, communication is often an essential component that both sides must possess.  After all, how will we understand each other, how will we grow close to one another if we can't even comprehend the words coming out of our mouths?  Language barriers can pose as great a complication as physical appearance, and in the world of Eden, that can mean a difference between understanding and conflict.  Yes, indeed, even Daniel and the others have faced this challenge.

But, as Mr. Gordon very well knows (being a writer), actions speak louder than words, and his characters reflect that truth.  Anyone can talk of peace or pain, but it is what we do, rather than what we say, that makes us who we are.

As if her name wasn't enough of a giveaway, Squeak can only squeak.  Throughout Daniel's journey, the most she can do in forms of verbal communication is squeak while using hand gestures and trying to mime her intended message.  Sadly, there are often more blank stares and face palms with this method.  Happily, though, Squeak doesn't need words to "speak".

Squeak shows her happiness in smiles, her sadness with tears, her love in the tender way she holds your cheek.  She may not say much, but there is a colorful personality beneath those antennas.  She's a very caring person, much like a dedicated nurse in how she always wants to help alieve those in pain.  With every volume, she grows with her family, and in doing so becomes a strong, developed character.

Squeak shows us that language, while important, is not what bonds others together.  Rather, it is we, ourselves, who make the bond.  It is the things we do for each other that form the love we all share.

Squeak is a girl with a loyal and loving heart, who is kind and protective to those she cares about.  She will continue to follow Daniel and her family as they venture forth towards an unknown future, squeaking and loving the life she has come to know and cherish.

Also, Magnifire.  Beautiful job on drawing Squeak's form.  She is really gorgeous.  And lovely job on the tunnels.  Excellent texture.
